Branding: Fancy dressing

Project type: Graphic design / branding
Location: Stamford, Lincolnshire

Why Design was commissioned by Lincolnshire based venue dressing company, Dilly & Taylor, to design their new branding.

The majority of the client's work would be venue dressing for weddings and Dilly & Taylor felt that their new identity should reflect this. Therefore, the key element of the brief was to develop branding that would appeal to young brides, was clean and modern yet retained a classical feel. Working closely with lead stylist, Jennifer Taylor, it was important to understand her preferences as a designer herself and how best to incorporate those into their new brand.

A variety of ideas were presented (2, 3, 4) and the merits of each discussed. However, it was clear from the outset that she loved the use of a ribbon to create the '&' in their logotype and we simply needed to experiment with different colour-ways.

We then developed the identity across their stationery (5) including an introductory package for new customers. Jennifer wanted to be able to send samples, tariffs and an overview of the company in a small folder, however the information needed to be interchangeable as not all customers required the same details.

As cost was an issue, we suggested designing a DL folder (made from a single sheet of A4), folded and tied with a ribbon. Jennifer could then print 1/3 A4 sheets on her desktop printer from a template designed by Why Design and insert them along with a tariff, samples and photos. This proved to a be a successful and cost effective solution enabling Dilly & Taylor to provide their clients with a bespoke information pack.
