Branding: Vintage clothing store receives a new look

Project type: Graphic design / branding
Location: Stamford, Lincolnshire

Why Design was commissioned to design the branding for new a store opening in the historic market town of Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Attic required an identity that reflected their products
and passion for all things 'delicious and lovely'.
After discussing how their idea of 'loveliness' could
be developed and the theory behind their store name, Attic, we presented an array of ideas (2, 3).

"We needed help and Del provided it in bucket loads. He has been inspirational in creating the visual representation of our original idea."

Kathryn White, Attic.

It was decided that 50's gingham style was perfect for their business. We developed the ideas (4) using various graphics synonomous with that style and design (ie. the feather, flower and leaf), exploring different colour ways and stationery layout.

"We found Del to be incredibly enthusiastic and fun to work with."

Kathryn White, Attic.

Once the colours and layouts were chosen we then turned our attention to Attic's supporting material. We needed to understand how the new branding could be implimented across signage, point of sale (5, 6) and promotional pieces. We explored each option to help the client understand how their brand would develop.

The client suggested a flyer to promote the store opening and we suggested alternative methods for a similar cost. We decided to create a 'collectable promotion' by designing a series of 4 postcards (7). The design reflected the style and era of the products Attic had to offer and each postcard carried a unique message about the store. This enabled Attic to not only educate its potential customers, but to also build local branding awareness.

"All work was completed to promised deadlines AND within the agreed budgets!
He was as committed to getting the end product right as we were."

Kathryn White, Attic.
